Stardust Transit 2020 - Acrylic on Wood 12ft.
Dear Ones,
Today we will explore briefly the vast topic of animism as it relates to the culture we are creating in the Cura Council and our practice of Intentional Creativity. This is not a deep dive, and I don’t go into the animal world although it is of course a part of animism. Trying to summarize this in less then twenty minutes is quite the task! This understanding will be important in our work going forward. I did not do it justice, but you can do more research on your own.
This is a good time to reflect on your own relationship with creation and animism.
When you speak to the moon your wish, or bathe in the water for renewal, or light a candle for a loved one - all of this is connected with ancient animism steeped in care and awareness that the spiritual world and material world are connected.
I hope you find value here, and an introduction, shiloh-ized if you need it. I hope you also look to your own practices and cultures to see where animism is alive in your traditions even if you did not know it was there.
At the heart of animism is respect. That respect leads to ritual. Creating art the way we do is indeed a ritual act.
